G’day Scrollers,
and hello from an emotionally wrecked human who finally wrapped up the latest season of Firefly Lane and is now recovering from my nightly down-the-rabbit-hole trials of friendship, betrayal of trust and being a receiver of passive-agressive bullshit. It’s kind of a history lesson for me.
It’s Easter week.
I hate Easter week.
Happy Easter.
This week has left me little time to go exploring in the world. I’m still in quite a funk that I discussed with you in my last post, and I thought I was getting out of it slowly, only to find that I probably still need more time to desensitise from some of the harshness the world has to offer. I’ve been lucky enough to have my girl-tribe helping on this and they’ve been a great source of comfort. What would I do without them?! Let’s hope I never find out.
- I’m going to ask you to pause for a moment and think about how many times you may have sat (or even stood, ha!) and thought about all the things in your life that you don’t have, and then I want to challenge that and see how you can shift your life in just 1 minute and 14 seconds by watching this.
- RIP Book Depository. Even though I’ve been trying to support more local bookshops since the pandemic, I still have a fondness for this website that has been such a great source of print and difficult to find titles over the years. Here is what was still in my Wish List.
- Norton Anthology of Poetry
- Jung’s Red Book for Our Time
- Neil Gaiman – Norse Mythology
- R. F. Kuang – Babel
- Constanza Casati – Clytemnestra (I only recently added this one which is how I found out they’re closing)
It’s a pretty short list but that’s only because my Amazon one is this and about 50 more… yes I have a problem. Considering I don’t have the mental headspace to read for long periods of time anymore. I am so sad that I am losing this passion and have no idea how to get it back. I’m trying.
I am having my dinner cooked for me tonight and I am beyond excited that someone else is in charge of that and I am free to continue my art piece that is coming along nicely. I am very happy with the progress and hope to finish it soon. I’ve decided to only do limited print runs and when they’re sold out, they’re sold out. This baby is a big A1 size piece that is going to look really modern and spectacular in either a white or black frame. I can’t wait to share it with you. It will be posted here and for sale when it’s all ready to go, providing I keep the website (see ‘Support’ note below). The print may take a while to get done, they’re very busy.
I don’t really have much more to say now. Like I said, I’m still in a small funk, which means I haven’t really been participating in life. I’ve been a bit of a recluse. I went out for Good Friday lunch as I do every year and it was so wonderful catching up with family and friends. The hosts of this lunch always put on a really great time and they outdo themselves every year. It was a nice taster for socialisation and I’m looking forward to Monday because I am having lunch with a very special person who means a lot to me. It will be so good to see her. I’ll tell you all about that in the next newsletter.
So, this week…
- What I’m Watching – I’m sorry but the only thing getting this sadly-no-longer-young body to consistently hop on the bandwagon this week has been avoiding all 18 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy and jumping straight in to season 19 just to get my Harry Shum Jr fix, like some lovesick teen, ogling the screen and pretending my knees don’t make creaking sounds when I walk up and down the stairs now.
- Listening to – Simon Sinek, A Bit of Optimism on Spotify
- Eating – Potato & Leek Galette because I’m practising for my Monday lunch guest
- Drinking – Water.. the old H2o that I can forget to do some days and wonder why I get all headachy.
- I’m using – Just found a cheap felt tip pen that is now my new best friend made by Pentel. I usually like a ballpoint. It’s a new me. I’ve purchased another pocket sized lined Moleskine which makes it easier to cart around now that I’ve minimised my handbag to a smaller one.
Recommendations by you: Something funny to watch
A really funny, and I’m talking belly-laughing show, new or old because I’m sick of scrolling through and not landing on anything. Must be on Netflix AU, Amazon Prime or Disney+… or any Aussie Free-To-Air catch up channels. I need to laugh.
Support – I love writing these newsletters and creating deeper threads of connection to you in this absurd world we are all navigating through, but it is a time-consuming endeavour and I’m not sure if I’ll continue it if there is no interaction. There is nothing sadder than talking to a void and I pay for this site and it’s about to renew… so to renew or not to renew?! That is the question. If you are enjoying my journey, and if you’re able, please consider supporting it by way of interaction. Hit the like button, it’s free to do and means the world to me, subscribing so you get a nice alert to my post. It would be hugely appreciated, and my gratitude is with you.
Until next time
Have a lovely Easter
Love, hugs and [mis]understandings,
Suzi
